Abstract

An evaluation of fluid based transient calorimetric method for measurement of ferrite core losses is presented in this paper. The calorimetric type of measurement of the ferrite core losses is considered to be an attractive solution to overcome the limits of the electrical measurements as it is largely independent of the excitation of the magnetics and the operating frequency. First, the performance of the adiabatic calorimeter with variable stirring speed is evaluated. Further on, the influence of specific heat capacity of different ferrite materials on measurement results was investigated by DC current injection method applied on different ferrite core samples. Finally, the proposed method for measuring ferrite loss is tested experimentally. Experimental results were presented in comparison to the results acquired from analytical calculation.
