Abstract

This chapter discusses the Internet of things (IoT)‐based remote monitoring and controlling system. IoT‐based techniques have become a revolutionary technology for the remote sensing and monitoring of photovoltaic (PV). A more advanced version of IoT‐based smart applications incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve enhanced adaptation and automation. An IoT‐based framework uses a wireless communication device to provide wireless access to end users. For developing a PV‐monitoring approach with IoT, the general architecture consists of four layers: IoT hardware, communication layer, cloud infrastructure, and data analytics. The chapter discusses the details of these layers. IoT leads to a broad range of benefits for energy systems such as proactive actions and real‐time intelligent automation, which boost the productivity and profitability of the renewable energy industry. The chapter describes three areas in which IoT can generate values: fault prediction, service life prediction, and AI‐enabled optimization.
