Equivalent Circuit Modelling of Automotive Powertrains for EMI Prediction of Conducted Emissions

Description

This talk introduces a designflow and methodology for modelling of a complete powertrain for automotive applications. The main components of the powertrain are highlighted and simple equivalent circuit models for each correspondent component are presented. Such an approach should be sufficient to get a rough, but sufficiently accurate estimation of the conducted emissions originated by EMI distortions up to at least some tenths of MHz. Furthermore, the particular contribution of each element into the conducted Emission spectrum isindicated, differentiating between the two classic modes of propagation, common and differential mode.

Additionally, based on the analysis of the EMI spectrum and understanding how each component influences it. Design strategies for EMI filters will be discussed, and possible actions or modifications will be presented.
