Abstract

In this paper a method for metamaterial realization by incorporating coupling effects of higher order frequency selective surfaces is described. For this, a primary design, generated by equivalent circuit methods, is systematically adjusted and evaluated by full wave simulations. The used optimizer-simulator combination allows solving the inverse problem of metamaterial design without the sophisticated modelling of interlayer coupling. Generated metamaterial bandpasses are finally used to create thin lenses (λ/8) based on common printed circuit board material.
